Yes, you CAN live an Ayurvedic lifestyle right here in the heart of Europe – Brussels!

Ayurveda, the traditional system of health and wellbeing from India, is not just about herbs and remedies. It’s about aligning your daily life with the rhythms of nature. And even in a bustling European capital like Brussels, there are so many ways to bring Ayurveda into your everyday routine.

Find Your “Green Patch”

The very first step to living more ayurvedically is to spend time in nature. Ayurveda teaches us that we are not separate from the natural world — our health flourishes when we connect with it daily.

My personal go-to is the vast Sonian Forest, as I’m lucky to live close by. But you don’t need a forest at your doorstep to benefit. La Cambre Abbey gardens, Parc du Cinquantenaire, Parc Duden, or even a slightly wild backyard or windowsill garden can serve as your “green patch.” The important thing is to have a place where you can pause, breathe, and realign with nature’s rhythms.

Where to Get Ayurvedic Supplies in Brussels

Brussels is surprisingly well-equipped for those looking to explore Ayurveda. Here are some of my favourite spots:

  • Herboristerie Sanjivani – A hidden gem for Ayurvedic staples like spices, herbs, and traditional ingredients.
  • Herboristerie Moderne – A trusted herbal shop where you can find a variety of natural remedies and teas.
  • Färm – This organic supermarket chain often stocks basic Ayurvedic herbs and high-quality pantry staples to support your Ayurvedic kitchen.

Dairy the Ayurvedic Way

Dairy is a cornerstone in many Ayurvedic practices — but only when sourced with care. Quality and digestibility matter. In Brussels, these are my favourites:

  • The dairy stand at your local farmers’ market – always a good place for fresh & local dairy products.
  • Zuiver Zuivel (available at Färm) – A biodynamic brand of dairy products that allows their cows and calves to stay together, making their dairy especially wholesome.
  • La Ferme de Tambourin (stocked at Carrefour and at Färm) – They produce A2 natural yoghurt, a type of dairy that’s easier to digest. A2 proteins are closer to the milk of Indian desi cows, long valued in Ayurveda for their digestibility.

Natural Cosmetics & Abhyanga Oils

Daily self-massage with warm oil, called abhyanga, is one of Ayurveda’s most nourishing rituals. For natural cosmetics and body oils in Brussels, I highly recommend:

  • Oh Lou Lou! – A beautiful, family-run natural cosmetics shop. Their oils and balms are not only 100% natural but also infused with care and intention. It’s a lovely spot to pick up skin-nourishing products that make your self-care routine feel special.

Experience A Divine Ayurvedic Massage

For an excellent quality ayurvedic massage experience, I highly recommend driving up to the Ayuryoga wellness hotel in Wortegem-Petegem. It’s a little detour from Brussels, but the trip is well worth it. Really great massage treatments, brilliant cuisine and a breath-taking yoga space will make for a wonderful Ayurvedic getaway.
